    The gravitational force of the Moon and the Sun causes the ocean tides.   The Moon’s gravity pulls water towards it, creating a high tide on the side of the Earth facing the Moon.   A similar effect happens on the opposite side of the Earth, due to the centrifugal force caused by the Earth-Moon system's rotation.
