C (A) is true, but (R) is false. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D (A) is false, but (R) is true Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

Turkan-i-Chahalgani (the group of 40 Turkish nobles) was established by Iltutmish for the consolidation of his empire. Balban was an important member of this group. Later, during the reign of Nasiruddin Mahmud, Balban became a close confidant of the Sultan due to his ability. When Balban himself became the Sultan, he suppressed and eliminated the Turkan-i-Chahalgani. Thus, both the assertion and the reason are correct, but the reason does not explain the assertion . His membership was a fact, and his rise in stature was a separate development.
