The Election Commission of India, a constitutional authority responsible for administering election processes, was established on 25th January 1950. It is tasked with overseeing elections to the Parliament, State Legislatures, and the offices of the President and Vice-President of India.Initially, the Commission was headed by a single Chief Election Commissioner. The concept of a multi-member body was introduced later, with two additional Commissioners appointed in 1989 and then permanently from 1993 onward.
