Jyotirao Phule founded the Satyashodhak Samaj (Truth-Seekers' Society) in 1873 in Pune, Maharashtra. As a prominent social activist, thinker, anti-caste reformer, and writer, Phule worked extensively to eradicate untouchability and the caste system and to promote education for women and lower-caste communities. Together with his wife Savitribai Phule, he pioneered women's education in India, establishing the first school for girls in 1848 in Pune. The other reformers mentioned led different movements: Keshab Chandra Sen was a leader of the Brahmo Samaj, Dayanand Saraswati founded the Arya Samaj in 1875, and Narayan Guru was a philosopher and social reformer from Kerala.
