Assembly Elections 2025, Gupta secured a significant victory in the Shalimar Bagh constituency, defeating Bandana Kumari of the Aam Aadmi Party by over 29,000 votes. Despite being a first-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), she was sworn in as Chief Minister by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, who administered the oath of office and secrecy to her and six cabinet ministers.
