The Arthashastra is an old Indian discourse on statecraft, economic policy, and military strategy, written in Sanskrit. It is one of the sources to learn about the history of the Mauryan Period. Kautilya in Arthshastra has mentioned four sources of law. The Vedas, the Anvikshaki (the science of reasoning), the science of government, and the science of economics (Varta of agriculture, cattle, and trade).
