      Justice Uday U Lalit is the 49th Chief Justice of India. He served as the Chief Justice of India for a period of seventy four days as the 49th CJI.  

      He was the only second judge after Justice SM Sikri (CJI from 1971-1973) to be elevated from the bar to the post of the Chief Justice of India.
