Question
Virat Kohli has played 122 innings and has an average
score of 74 runs per inning. The difference between his highest and lowest scores in an innings is 186 runs. If these two extreme scores (highest and lowest) are excluded, the average of the remaining innings decreases by 1.25 runs. What is the highest score he has achieved in a single inning?Solution
ATQ;
Let highest and lowest runs scored by the Virat Kohli is ‘x’ and ‘y’ respectively.
Total runs scored by him in 122 innings = 122 × 74 = 9028
Runs scored by him in 120 innings = 72.75 × 120 = 8730
So, x + y = 9028 – 8730 = 298
And, x – y = 186
So, x = (298 + 186)/2 = 242
