      1/5 of a rod is coloured red, 1/10 orange, 1/15 yellow,

      1/20 green, 1/25 blue, 1/30 black and the rest is violet. If the length of the violet portion of the rod is 24.48 metres, then the length of the rod is

      Solution

      Let the length of the rod be x metres. According to the question, x – [(x/5) + (x/10) + (x/15) + (x/20) + (x/25) + (x/30)] =24.48 x – [1 – {(60 + 30 + 20 + 15 + 12 + 10)/300}] = 24.48 x – (1 – 147/300) = 12.08 x (300 – 147)/300 = 24.48 x = (24.48 x 300)/153 x = 48m
