      Question

Train A is 75 m long and travels at a uniform speed of

54 km/hour. Train B is 125 m long and travels at a uniform speed of 36 km/hour in the direction opposite to that of Train A. If these trains are crossing at a double-track stretch, what is the me taken for the two trains to fully clear each other?
A 10 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 8 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 7.2 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 6.6 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Length of train A = 75m, speed of train A = 54km/hr = 54*1000/60*60 = 15m/s Length of train B = 125m, Speed of train B = 36km/hr = 36*1000/60*60 = 10m/s Now they are moving in opposite direcon So, relave speed will be sum of both So, S = D/T 15 + 10 = (75 + 125)/ T 25 = 200/T T = 8 seconds
