Due to p ersistent demands for  reverting back to Old Pension Scheme (OPS) , the government established a committee in 2023 led by  T V Somanathan . The recommendations of the committee have led to the introduction of the new  Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) which was approved by the government to be effective from April 01, 2025.  Â
