Question
Train βDβ is travelling with a speed of 60 km/hr and
crosses a vertical pole in 6 seconds. Train βEβ is 36 metres longer than βDβ and travelling with a speed 1/5th less than that of train 'D'. In how much time train E can cross a 144 metres long platform?Solution
Speed of train βDβ = 60 Γ (5/18) = 50/3 m/sec Length of train βDβ = (50/3) Γ 6 = 100 metres Therefore, speed of train βEβ = (4/5) Γ (50/3) = 40/3 m/sec Length of train βEβ = 100 + 36 = 136 metres Required time taken = (136 + 144)/(40/3) = 280 Γ· (40/3) = (280 Γ 3)/40 = 21 seconds
