Question
A train can cross a pole in 10 seconds while it can
cross a 240 metres long platform in 28 seconds. Find the time (in hours) taken by the train to cover a distance of 540 km if the train increased its speed by 50%.Solution
Let speed of train is 'x' m/s while length of the train is 'l' metres.
So, l = 10x And, l + 240 = 28x
Or, 10x + 240 = 28x
Or, 18x = 240
Or, x = 40/3
So, Speed of train = (40/3) × 18/5 = 48 km/h
Desired time = 540/(1.50 × 48) = 7.5 hours
