      Question

      Train A, when travelling at a speed of 108 km/h, crosses

      a pole in 6 seconds. Find the time taken by Train A to cross another Train B of length 50% more than Train A, coming from the opposite direction at 72 km/h.
      A 6 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 7 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 8 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D 9 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Speed of Train A = 108 ร— 5/18 = 30 m/s
      Length of Train A = 30 ร— 6 = 180 m
      Length of Train B = 1.5 ร— 180 = 270 m
      Speed of Train B = 72 ร— 5/18 = 20 m/s
      Total distance = 180 + 270 = 450 m
      Relative speed = 30 + 20 = 50 m/s
      Time = 450 / 50 = 9 seconds
