Question
Kiran is sitting inside train X which is travelling at a
speed of 55 km/h. Another train Y, whose length is four times the length of train X and travelling with a speed of 60 km/h (in opposite direction to that of train X) crosses Kiran in 18 seconds. Find the length of train X (in metres).Solution
ATQ,
Relative speed = 55 + 60 = 115 km/h = 115 × 5/18 = 31.94 m/s
Let the length of train X be ‘x’ meters
So, 4x = 31.94 × 18
Or, 4x = 575
Or, x = 143.75 ≈ 144 metres
