    Two trains ‘A’ and ‘B’ started from station

    ‘P’ and ‘Q’ towards station ‘Q’ and ‘P’ respectively at the same time. When they met after 11 hours, train ‘B’ has travelled 144 km more than train ‘A’. Find the distance travelled by train ‘A’ in 8 hours if distance between both stations is 408 km.

    Solution

    Let distance travelled by train ‘A’ at the time of meet = ‘x’ km So, distance travelled by train ‘B’ at the time of meet = ‘x + 144’ km According to question; x + x + 144 = 408 => 2x = 264 => x = 132 Distance travelled by train ‘A’ in 11 hours = 132 km Speed of train ‘A’ = 132/11 = 12 km/h Distance travelled by train ‘A’ in 8 hours = 12 × 8 = 96 km
