Question
‘A’ alone can do some work in 14 days. ‘B’ and
‘C’ together can do the same work in 12 days. If ‘B’ is half as efficient as ‘A’, then find the time taken by ‘C’ to complete the work alone.Solution
Let the total work be 84 units. {LCM (14 and 12)} So, efficiency of ‘A’ = (84/14) = 6 units/day So, efficiency of ‘B’ = (6 x 0.5) = 3 unit/day Efficiency of ‘B’ and ‘C’ together = (84/12) = 7 units/day So, efficiency of ‘C’ = 7 – 3 = 4 units/day So, time taken by ‘C’ to finish the work alone = (84/4) = 21 days
