Question
If Mohan covers a certain distance at 21 km/h, he gets
delayed by 4 hours. If he travels at 35 km/h, he reaches 1 hour early. Find 30% of the distance travelled by Mohan.Solution
ATQ:
Let the distance travelled by Mohan = ‘d’ km
Let the usual time taken by Mohan to travel this distance = ‘t’ hours We have,
d ÷ 21 = t + 4…………………..(i)
Also, d ÷ 35 = t – 1…………………(ii) Equation (i) – Equation (ii), we get
(d/21) – (d/35) = t + 4 – (t – 1) = 5
Or, (5d – 3d) ÷ 105 = 5
So, d = (105 × 5) ÷ 2 = 262.5 So, 30% of the distance travelled by Mohan = 262.5 × 0.3 = 78.75 km
