Let the distance between the home and school be x km Time taken at 8 km/h = Tβ = x/8 hours Speed = 2.5 m/s = (2.5 Γ 18/5) = 9 km/h Time taken at 9 km/h = Tβ = x/9 hours Difference in time = Tβ - Tβ = (x/8) - (x/9) Given, Tβ - Tβ = 18 - 8 = 10 minutes = 10/60 = 1/6 hour So, (x/8) - (x/9) = 1/6 (9x - 8x)/72 = 1/6 x/72 = 1/6 x = 72/6 = 12 Therefore, the required distance is 12 km.
