Question
Riya rides a bike at an average speed of 50 kmph and
reaches her destination in 6 hours. Himani covers the same distance in 5 hrs. If Riya increases her average speed by 10 kmph and Himani increases her average speed by 20 kmph, what would be the difference in their time taken to reach destination?Solution
Riya’s speed= 50 km/hr. Time taken by Riya = 6 hrs. Distance = Speed × Time = 50 × 6 = 300 km. ∴ Distance covered by Himani = 300 km. Time taken by Himani = 5 hrs. ∴ Himani’s Speed = (Distance )/Time = (300 )/5 = 60 km/hr. Riya’s increased speed= 60 km/hr. ∴ Time taken by Riya = (300 )/60 = 5 hrs. Himani’s increased speed = 80 km/hr. ∴ Time taken by Himani = (300 )/80 = 3*3/4 hrs. = 3hrs 45 minutes. ∴ Required difference = 5 hrs – 3hrs 45 minutes = 75 minutes.
