Question
Train P starts from Lucknow to Dehradun at 11:55 am with
an average speed of 25 m/s. Train Q starts from Dehradun to Lucknow at 1:35 pm with an average speed of 20 m/s. At what time the two trains will meet each other if the distance between Lucknow and Dehradun is 595 Km.Solution
Speed of train P = 25 × 18/5 = 90 Km/h Speed of train Q = 20 × 18/5 = 72 Km/h Distance travelled by train P till 1:35 pm = 90 × 5/3 = 150 Km Relative speed of trains = 90 + 72 = 162 Km/h Remaining distance to be travelled after 1:35 pm = 595 – 150 = 445 Km Time taken to cover 445 Km = 445/162 = 11/4 = 2 hours 15 minutes So the two trains will meet each other at 1:35 + 2:15 = 3:50 pm
