      Question

The speed of ‘A’ and ‘B’

is 65 km/hr and 40 km/hr, respectively. If the distance covered by ‘A’ in ‘x’ hours is 325 km more than that by ‘B’ in the same time, then find the value of ‘x’.
A 20 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 10 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 13 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 12 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

If the time is same, then the ratio of the speeds is equal to the ratio of the distance covered
      Therefore, ratio of the distance covered by ‘A’ and ‘B’ = 65:40 = 13:8
Let the distance covered by ‘A’ and ‘B’ be 13y km and 8y km, respectively
      According to the question,
      13y – 8y = 325
      Or, y = 325/5 = 65
      Therefore, distance coved by ‘A’ = 13y = 845 km
      Time taken by ‘A’ = x = 845/65 = 13 hours
