A sum of Rs 50,000 is partly invested in  Scheme A  at

8% simple interest per annum and the remaining in  Scheme B  at 12% simple interest per annum. The total  simple interest  received from both schemes together after 2 years is Rs 10,400. How much amount was invested in  Scheme B ?
A Rs 50,500 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Rs 30,000 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Rs 40,000 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Rs 30,800 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      ATQ, Let the amount invested in Scheme A = Rs x Then amount in Scheme B = 50,000 − x Simple interest for 2 years: Interest from A = x × 8% × 2 = 0.16x Interest from B = (50,000 − x) × 12% × 2 = (50,000 − x) × 0.24 Total interest = 10,400 So, 0.16x + 0.24(50,000 − x) = 10,400 ⇒ 0.16x + 12,000 − 0.24x = 10,400 ⇒ 12,000 − 0.08x = 10,400 ⇒ 0.08x = 12,000 − 10,400 = 1,600 ⇒ x = 1,600 ÷ 0.08 = 20,000 Amount in Scheme B = 50,000 − 20,000 = Rs 30,000
