    Question

The ratio of the lengths of rods A, B, and C is 2:3:4

respectively. Rod D is 5 cm shorter than rod C. If the difference between rod C and rod A is 20 cm, find the ratio of length of rod B to rod D.
A 6:7 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 5:6 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 7:6 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 4:5 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

Let the lengths be 2x, 3x, and 4x respectively.
    So, length of rod D = 4x - 5
    ATQ,
    4x - 2x = 20
    Or, 2x = 20
    Or, x = 10
    So, length of rod B = 3 × 10 = 30
    And, rod D = 4 × 10 - 5 = 35
    Required ratio = 30:35 = 6:7
