Question

A container holds 180 litres of a milk and water

mixture, where the amount of milk exceeds the amount of water by 44 litres. If 8 litres of milk and 12 litres of water are added to this mixture, what will be the ratio of milk to water in the final solution?
A 2:1 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 3:2 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 6:5 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 7:4 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

Let the quantity of water in the 180-litre mixture = ‘y’ litres
    Quantity of milk in the 180-litre mixture = (y + 44) litres
    So, y + y + 44 = 180
    Or, y = (180 – 44) ÷ 2 = 68 litres
So, original quantity of milk in the mixture = 68 + 44 = 112 litres
    So, required ratio = (112 + 8):(68 + 12)
    = 120:80 = 3:2
