Question
A container holds 180 litres of a milk and water
mixture, where the amount of milk exceeds the amount of water by 44 litres. If 8 litres of milk and 12 litres of water are added to this mixture, what will be the ratio of milk to water in the final solution?Solution
Let the quantity of water in the 180-litre mixture = ‘y’ litres
Quantity of milk in the 180-litre mixture = (y + 44) litres
So, y + y + 44 = 180
Or, y = (180 – 44) ÷ 2 = 68 litres
So, original quantity of milk in the mixture = 68 + 44 = 112 litres
So, required ratio = (112 + 8):(68 + 12)
= 120:80 = 3:2
