      Question

      I. 3y² - 7 y + 2= 0 II. 24x² + 26 x

      – 5= 0 In the following questions, two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer.
A if x>y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B if x≥y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C if x Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D if x ≤y Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E if x=y or the relationship cannot be established Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      I. 3y² - 7 y + 2= 0 3y² - y - 6 y + 2= 0 y (3 y – 1) – 2(3 y – 1) = 0 (y – 2) (3 y – 1) = 0 ∴ y = 2, 1/3 II. 24x² + 26 x – 5= 0 24x² - 4 x + 30 x – 5= 0 4 x(6 x – 1) + 5 (6 x – 1) = 0 (4 x + 5) (6 x – 1) = 0 ∴ x = 1/6, -5/4 Hence, x<y
