Question
A shopkeeper bought 'x - 40' kg of pulses at Rs. 70 per kg and 40 kg of pulses at Rs. 'x' per kg and mixed them. He sold the mixture at Rs. 108 per kg and thus making a profit of 20%. Find the value of 'x'.
Solution
Cost price of one kg of mixture = (108/1.20) = Rs. 90 ATQ, [{70 X (x - 40) + (40 X x)}/(x - 40 + 40)] = 90 Or, 70x - 2800 + 40x = 90x Or, 20x = 2800 So, x = 140
