Question
The marked price of the washing machine is 10% above its
cost price. The seller offers two successive discounts of 5% and 10%, respectively. If he incurs a loss of Rs. 595, find the price (in rupees) at which he sold the washing machine.Solution
Let the cost price = Rs. x
Marked price = 110% of x = Rs. 1.10x
According to the question,
x - 1.10x × 95% × 90% = 595
x - 1.10x × 0.95 × 0.90 = 595
x - 0.9405x = 595
0.0595x = 595 ⟹ x = 10000
The required selling price = Rs. 10000 - 595 = Rs. 9405
