Question
Ramesh purchased 7 chairs, 14 tables, and 21 lamps for
Rs. 210, Rs. 700, and Rs. 630, respectively, from a seller. By selling each chair and each table, the seller made a profit of ‘g%’ and ‘h%’, respectively, such that h = 5g. Find the profit earned by the seller on selling all the lamps given the condition that the cost price of a table, a chair, and a lamp is the same.Solution
According to the question Let the cost price of each chair, each table, and each lamp be Rs. ‘w’ Selling price of each chair = (210/7) = Rs. 30 Selling price of each table = (700/14) = Rs. 50 According to the question, (30–w)/w×100=g…… (I) Also, (50–w)/w×100=h…… (II) Dividing equation (I) by (II), we get (30–w)/(50–w)=g/h Or, (30–w)/(50–w)=g/5g Or, 150w–5w=50–w Or, 4w=50 Or, w=12.5 Therefore, the cost price of all the lamps = Rs. 21w = Rs. 262.5 Required profit = 630 – 262.5 = Rs. 367.5
