Question
Selling price of article ‘A’ when sold at a profit
of 40% is Rs. 210 more than its selling price when sold at a loss of 30%. If the cost price of article ‘B’ is Rs. 80 more than that of ‘A’, then find the cost price of article ‘B’.Solution
Let the cost price of article ‘A’ = Rs. ‘100y’ Then, selling price of the article when it is sold at a profit of 40% = 1.40 × 100y = Rs. ‘140y’ And, selling price of the article when it is sold at a loss of 30% = 0.70 × 100y = Rs. ‘70y’ According to the question, 140y – 70y = 210 Or, y = (210/70) Or, y = 3 So, cost price of article ‘A’ = 100 × 3 = Rs. 300 Therefore, cost price of article ‘B’ = 300 + 80 = Rs. 380
