Question
Out of his total income, Ramesh spent 25% on food, 40% of the remaining income on rent, and saved the remaining income which amounts to Rs. 18,000. Suresh's income is 20% more than that of Ramesh. Find the income of Suresh.
Solution
Let the income of Ramesh = Rs. '100x' Amount left after spending on food = 100x - 100x X 0.25 = Rs. '75x' Amount left after spending on rent = 75x - 75x X 0.40 = Rs. '45x' So, 45x = 18000 Or, x = 18000 ÷ 45 = 400 So, income of Ramesh = 400 X 100 = Rs. 40,000 Income of Suresh = 40000 X 1.20 = Rs. 48,000
