Question
In a school, the ratio of number of boys to girls is 8:7. The ratio of boys who passed to those who failed is 3:1, whereas the ratio of girls who passed to those who failed is 4:3. Number of girls who passed is what percent of number of boys who passed?
Solution
ATQ, Let the number of boys and girls be 8m and 7m respectively. For boys, pass : fail = 3 : 1 ⇒ Total parts = 4 ⇒ Number of boys who passed = (3/4) × 8m = 6m For girls, pass : fail = 4 : 3 ⇒ Total parts = 7 ⇒ Number of girls who passed = (4/7) × 7m = 4m Required percent = (Number of girls passed / Number of boys passed) × 100 = (4m / 6m) × 100 = (2/3) × 100 = 66⅔%
