Question
Income of Meera is 12.5% more than the expenditure of
Riya. Income of Riya is 40% more than the expenditure of Meera. If savings of Riya is Rs. 2,000 more than that of Meera and ratio between expenditure and savings of Meera is 5:1, respectively, then find the income of Riya.Solution
Let the expenditure of Riya be Rs. β8xβ
So, income of Meera = 8x Γ (9/8) = Rs. β9xβ
Let the expenditure of Meera be Rs. β5yβ
So, income of Riya = 5y Γ (7/5) = Rs. β7yβ
So, savings of Meera = 5y Γ (1/5) = Rs. y
ATQ;
9x β 5y = y
Or, 9x = 6y
Or, x = (2y/3)
Since, savings of Riya is Rs. 2,000 more than that of Meera.
7y β 8x = y + 2000
On putting x = (2y/3):
7y β 16y/3 = y + 2000
Or, 5y/3 = y + 2000
So, 2y/3 = 2000 β y = 3000
So, income of Riya = 7 Γ 3000 = Rs. 21,000
