Question
Income of Arjun is 25% more than the expenditure of
Varun. Income of Varun is 60% more than the expenditure of Arjun. If savings of Varun is Rs. 5,000 more than that of Arjun and ratio between expenditure and savings of Arjun is 8:3, respectively, then find the income of Varun.Solution
Let the expenditure of Varun be Rs. β4xβ
So, income of Arjun = 4x Γ (5/4) = Rs. β5xβ
Let the expenditure of Arjun be Rs. β5yβ
So, income of Varun = 5y Γ (8/5) = Rs. β8yβ
So, savings of Arjun = 5y Γ (3/8) = Rs. (15y/8)
ATQ;
5x β 5y = (15y/8)
Or, 5x = (55y/8)
Or, x = (11y/8)
Since, savings of Varun is Rs. 5,000 more than that of Arjun.
8y β 4x = (15y/8) + 5000
On putting x = (11y/8):
5y/2 = 15y/8 + 5000
Or, 20y = 15y + 40000
So, y = 8000
So, income of Varun = 8 Γ 8000 = Rs. 64,000
