Given: 0.2x+0.4y = 138 y = x+36 Substitute: 0.2x+0.4(x+36) = 138 ⇒ 0.2x+0.4x+14.4 = 138 ⇒ 0.6x = 123.6 ⇒x = 206 ⇒ y = x + 36 = 242 So, 2x−y = 2x − y = 2(206)−242 = 412 − 242 = 170
