Alternate Method: Let the present population of males and females be x and y respectively. so, x + y = 5000--------(i) After increament in the number of males and females 1.06x + 1.14y = 5540 -----(ii) after solving (i) and (ii) we get, x = 2000 and y = 3000 Therefore increament in males = 2000 x 1.06 = 2120
