Question
A gets 30% of the full marks in an exam and fails by 80
marks. B gets 35% of the full marks in the same exam and he also fails by 64 marks. What is the minimum percentage of marks a student should obtain to pass the exam?Solution
Let maximum marks = 100x ∴ 30x + 80 = 35x + 64 => 5x = 16 => x = 3.2 ∴ Max marks = 100x = 320 ∴ Minimum percentage marks to be pass = {[(30×3.2) + 80]/320} × 100 = 55%
