Question
A and B start a business. A invests Rs 5,000 for the whole year, while B invests Rs 8,000 for 9 months only. At the end of the year, the total profit is Rs 4,400. What is B’s share in the profit?
Solution
A’s investment time-product = 5000 × 12 = 60,000 B’s investment time-product = 8000 × 9 = 72,000a Ratio A : B = 60000 : 72000 = 5 : 6 Total profit = 4400 B’s share = (6 / (5 + 6)) × 4400 = (6/11) × 4400 = 6 × 400 = 2400 So B’s share = Rs 2,400.
