Question
There are balls of three colours: blue, green, and
white. The number of green balls is 8 more than the average number of balls of each colour. The number of blue balls is 25% less than the number of green balls, and 10 more than the number of white balls. Find the number of white balls.Solution
ATQ,
Let the average number of balls of each colour be ‘x’. Therefore, number of green coloured balls = (x + 8) Number of blue coloured balls = 0.75(x + 8) Number of white coloured balls = 0.75(x + 8) – 10 Therefore, (x + 8) + 0.75(x + 8) + 0.75(x + 8) – 10 = 3x Or, 0.5x = 14 Or, x = 14 / 0.5 = 28 Therefore, number of white coloured balls = 0.75(x + 8) – 10 = 0.75(36) – 10 = 27 – 10 = 17
