Question
Average of five consecutive odd numbers is 17. What is the
largest of the given five numbers?Solution
ATQ,
Let the first number be 'x'
Therefore, the five consecutive odd numbers will be 'x', (x + 2), (x + 4), (x + 6), (x + 8)
ATQ:
x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) + (x + 6) + (x + 8) = 5 × 17
Or, 5x + 20 = 85
Or, 5x = 85 - 20
Or, 5x = 65
Or, x = 65 ÷ 5 = 13
Therefore, the first number = 13
So, the largest or the last number is = (x + 8) = 13 + 8 = 21
