Question
A set consists of four consecutive even numbers and
three consecutive odd numbers. The smallest even number is three times the value of the smallest odd number. The total sum of these seven numbers is 315. Determine the largest even number in the set.Solution
ATQ;
Let smallest odd number = x
Then smallest even number = 3x
Numbers: (x, x+2, x+4) and (3x, 3x+2, 3x+4, 3x+6)
Sum = x + (x+2) + (x+4) + 3x + (3x+2) + (3x+4) + (3x+6) = 315
11x + 18 = 315
11x = 297
x = 27
Largest even number = 3x + 6 = 81 + 6 = 87
