Let the quantity of the milk in the initial mixture = 5x litres
The quantity of the water in the initial mixture = 2x litres
The quantity of milk in 21 litres of mixture = (21/7) × 5 = 15 litres
The quantity of water in 21 litres of mixture = (21/7) × 2 = 6 litres
According to the question,
(5x – 15) = 2 × (2x – 6 + 5)
5x – 15 = 2 × (2x – 1)
5x – 15 = 4x – 2
x = 13
The quantity of water in the initial mixture = 2 × 13 = 26 litres
