Question
Two mixtures (milk and water) 'A' and 'B' contains
quantities of milk and water in ratio of 1:4 and 3:7, respectively. If 25 ml from 'A' and 50 ml from 'B' are mixed to form a new mixture, then find the percentage of water in the new mixture.Solution
Quantity of water in 25 ml of mixture 'A' = 25 × (4/5) = 20 ml
Quantity of water in 50 ml of mixture 'B' = 50 × (7/10) = 35 ml
Total quantity of final mixture = (25 + 50) = 75 ml
Required percentage = ((20 + 35) ÷ 75) × 100 = 55/75 × 100 = 73.33% ≈ 73%
