Question
A mixture contains wine and water in the ratio 5:6. After
removing 132 ml of mixture and adding 264 ml of water, the amount of water becomes 100% more than that of wine. Find the original quantity of mixture.Solution
ATQ,
Let amount of wine and water in the original mixture be 5x ml and 6x ml respectively.
Amount of wine in 132 ml of mixture = 5/11 Γ 132 = 60 ml
Amount of water in 132 ml of mixture = 132 β 60 = 72 ml
According to the question:
(6x β 72 + 264) = 2 Γ (5x β 60)
Or, 6x + 192 = 10x β 120
Or, 4x = 312
Or, x = 78
Original quantity of mixture = 11x = 11 Γ 78 = 858 ml
