    3 : 2. After adding 16 litres of milk and 16 litres of water, the ratio of milk to water becomes 10 : 7. What was the original quantity of the mixture?

    Solution

    Let the amount of milk and water in mixture initially be ‘3x’ litres and ‘2x’ litres respectively.
    According to question,
    (3x + 16)/(2x + 16) = 10/7
    21x + 112 = 20x + 160
    21x – 20x = 160 – 112
    x = 48
    So, the initial quantity of mixture = 48 × 2 + 48 × 3 = 240 litres
