Question
350 ml of mixture contains milk and water in the ratio
of 9:5 respectively. If ‘x’ ml of mixture is taken out and 30 ml of milk and 40 ml of water is added into the remaining mixture then ratio of milk to water in the resulting mixture will be 4:3. Find the value of ‘x’.Solution
Quantity of milk in 350 ml of mixture = (9/14) × 350 = 225 ml
Quantity of water in 350 ml of mixture = 350 – 225 = 125 ml
Let quantity of mixture taken out is 14a ml (milk = 9a and water = 5a). And x = 14a
So, (225 – 9a + 30)/(125 – 5a + 40) = 4/3
Or, 765 – 27a = 660 – 20a
Or, 7a = 105
Or, a = 15
So, x = 14 × 15 = 210
