Question
A mixture of P litres consists of milk and water in a
5:3 ratio. If 20 litres of this mixture is removed and replaced with an equal amount of water, the quantities of milk and water in the mixture become equal. Determine the value of P.Solution
Let the quantity of milk and water present in the mixture after 20 litres is removed be β5xβ and β3xβ litres, respectively.
ATQ:
5x = 3x + 20
Or, 2x = 20
So, x = 10
So, total quantity of mixture = 5x + 3x + 20 = 8x + 20 = (8 Γ 10) + 20 = 100 litres
So, P = 100
