Question
In a mixture, the quantity of alcohol is 50% of the
quantity of water. On removing 100 litres mixture and adding 50 litres each of alcohol and water, the quantity of alcohol becomes 40 litres less than that of water in the final mixture. Find the final quantity of water.Solution
ATQ, After removal of 100 litres of mixture, Let the initial quantity of water be '100f' litres. Initial quantity of alcohol = 0.5 × 100f = '50f' litres. ATQ, 100f - 50f = 40 Or, 50f = 40 Or, 'f' = 40/50 = 0.8 Therefore, final quantity of water = 100f + 50 = 100 × 0.8 + 50 = 80 + 50 = 130 litres
