Question
A vessel contains 250 litres mixture of water and milk
in the ratio 3:7 respectively. (y+20) litres of water added in the mixture, so the new ratio of milk to water becomes 5:4. If ‘y’ litres of pure milk added in the initial mixture, then find the ratio of water to milk in the resultant mixture.Solution
Initial quantity of water = 250 × (3/10) = 75 litres Initial quantity of milk = 250 × (7/10) = 175 litres According to the question, => (75 + y + 20)/175 = 4/5 => 475 + 5y = 700 => 5y = 225 => y = 45 Required ratio water to milk in the resultant mixture = 75/(175 + 45) = 15:44
