    • Question

A rectangle has a perimeter of 160 cm. Its breadth is 40%

less than its length. Calculate the area (in cm²) of a square whose side is 20 cm shorter than the length of the rectangle.
A 840 cm² Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 530 cm² Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 725 cm² Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 900 cm² Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      ATQ,

Let the length of the rectangle be '5y' cm

      Breadth of the rectangle = (3/5) × 5y = '3y' cm

      So, 2 × (5y + 3y) = 160

      Or, 8y = 80

      Or, 'y' = 10

      Length of rectangle = 5 × 10 = 50 cm

      Side of the square = 50 - 20 = 30 cm

      Therefore, area of the square = (side)² = 30² = 900 cm²
